Like Super Monkey Ball and Super Monkey Ball 2, Super Monkey Ball Deluxe contains a number of Monkey Ball-themed "party games" for up to four players:

Initially there are three difficulties "Beginner" with 40 stages, "Advanced" with 70 stages and "Expert" with 100. Challenge mode contains almost all the stages in Super Monkey Ball Deluxe, although some are exclusive to World 10 in Story Mode. The player starts with three lives but can obtain more by collecting 100 bananas. In Challenge Mode, the player is tasked with completing a set of stages in a defined sequence against the clock, similar to the arcade Monkey Ball. There are more stages per World in Deluxe, than Super Monkey Ball 2, and the player only needs to complete ten of them to advance the story. Similar to Super Monkey Ball 2, story mode is played across ten "Worlds", in which the player is given a set of stages (grouped roughly by difficulty) that can be completed in any order. (Unsponsored) bananas can also be collected. In the main game, the objective is to guide your monkey to a goal by tilting a 3D stage within a set time limit. Super Monkey Ball Deluxe plays much the same as its GameCube predecessors, though borrows more of its theming from Super Monkey Ball 2 than its prequel.
