Species usually work in the following way: a large amount of the species appears on the game, and depending on where it goes afterwards, the species will either die off, become large and bothersome for other ponies around them, or live long enough to simply be widely accepted. The word "species" acts as an umbrella term for every creature in the game that isn't a pony, it's very likely that species were the very first type of groups to exist on Pony Town before regiments and scouts spiked in popularity. Species are unique Pony Town creatures that are mostly created and invented by players, however there are also canon species that are occasionally taken from the My Little Pony Franchise like for example: the changelings.
