#Paint tool sai black and white to color ui how to#
Earlier in the tutorial I discussed how to define areas by using Reference Layers. This setting changes what is seen as the defined area, NOT what else will blend. * Note: The TWO COLOR NEIGHBORS rule still applies. This could be helpful if you use similar colors that wont register as SEPARATE colors when using. Finally at 30 it saw them ALL as the SAME color. At 20 it saw the two darker colors as the SAME color. On the far left it saw each color individually. In other words, it lets you color or draw on a layer in selective areas without having to select them all. Setting a layer as a Reference Layer makes whatever is on that layer the boundaries by which the tool using it adheres to. Create gradients on the artwork layer at your own risk! Separating your gradients from your actual work, in my opinion, is the best way to use. * Note: Initially I included making gradients on one layer with "Lock Transparency"as a third option, but the results were inconsistent, enough to be frustrating. You can also use masks to create extra areas within areas. PROS: Clean, easy to fix, best for realistic paintings and illustrations without line-workĬONS: Will require changing the Reference Layer many times to add gradients to each shape (if more than one gradient is needed), requires creating everything in shapes to DEFINE AREAS You can repeat this process to color several areas and shapes in an illustration. Make a new layer ABOVE it to create a gradient IN THE SHAPE OF THE REFERENCE LAYER. HOW TO DO IT: Paint a shape of A SINGLE COLOR on one layer, then set this layer as the Reference Layer.
